Latest Update : New loadshedding timetable effective from Ashad 16,2067
Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has increased the loadshedding to 11 hours per day starting Magh 14,2066(Jan 28,2009) . This brings the power cut to 77 hours/week from the previous 63 hours/week.
With the new schedule the nation will witness power cuts of six and five hours each in the morning and evening.
The electricity consumers bear the brunt of acute power shortage every winter as electricity demand rises in the dry season while hydropower projects generate less electricity during the dry season.
The projects produce half their installed capacity as all the hydro-projects– except Kulekhani — are built on run-of-the river model.
The NEA has said that it had to come up with a new schedule as the water levels in the rivers have decreased. As a result it has not been able to generate sufficient electricity to meet the people’s demand.
New Loadshedding Timetable starting : July 1, 2010
Loadshedding Schedule updated on March 12 2010 .
I have also heard that there will be a price hike by 30% on electricity price.
