After the phenomenal success of the Samsung Galaxy S4, International Marketing Services (IMS), the sole authorised distributor of Samsung mobile phones in Nepal, is all set to introduce a miniature version of the device, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini(Check Specs.). The company said that the phone would be introduced next week. The new handset from the Korean tech major is a mid-sized and affordable device designed for those who find the Galaxy S4 a bit too big and pricey.
“In a way, this set will fill the gap between the Galaxy S3 and S4 models. We are excited about the launch of this new phone,” said Dikesh Malhotra, president of IMS. According to him, the main version of the device has done exceptionally well in the Nepal market with around 1,800 Galaxy S4s sold. “Though demand for this new model will be a bit lower compared to the Galaxy S4, we are expecting decent sales,” said Malhotra. The company aims to sell around 500 units of the Galaxy Mini monthly, he added.
What makes this device exciting is that it has a dual SIM slot. According to the company, the Galaxy Mini is the high-end offering from the company in the dual SIM phone series. The domestic market has been witnessing a significant rise in the sales of smartphones having dual SIM options due to their high utility factor.
Visually, the new Samsung is identical to the original Galaxy S4. It is smaller in size and lighter. The interfaces of both the Galaxy S4 and the S4 Mini are identical. They have the recent version of Android’s Operating System (OS) with Samsung’s customary UI TouchWiz on top. It runs on Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS. The S4 Mini is fitted with Qualcomm MSM8930 Snapdragon 400 chipset, dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait CPU and Adreno 305 GPU.
The phone has a 4.3-in Super Amoled capacitive touchscreen having a pixel density of 256 ppi. Its screen boasts multi-touch functionality along with corning gorilla glass protection. Likewise, the device boasts an 8 mega-pixel camera with LED flash and auto focus functionality. Camera features like geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama are available. Also, there is a 1.9 mega pixel front facing camera for video calling functionality. As for the memory, the Galaxy S4 Mini has an internal space of 8 GB along with 1.5 GB RAM. The memory can be enhanced up to 64 GB by using an SD card.
Additional features include language translator, WatchOn feature that uses a transmitter to enable users to operate their televisions and other devices with the phone and exercise tracker, among others.
IMS said that the device would be released at an introductory price of around Rs 52,000.
It will be available in Frost White and Mist Black colour options. According to Malhotra, EMI facility will be available for this phone too.
