Mediatek Dimensity 800 5G

MediaTek at the CES 2020 Electronics Show, which is currently taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, introduced the Dimensity 800 5G processor for mid-range and high-end smartphones with support for fifth-generation mobile networks.

The Dimensity series also includes the Dimensity 1000L and Dimensity 1000. The new Dimensity 800 is a mid-range solution, has a built-in 5G modem and is aimed at low-cost smartphones .

Mediatek unveiled the Dimensity series last month in December but then the characteristics of the product were not disclosed. The company took this opportunity on the stage of CES 2020 to unveil its features and characteristics.

The Dimensity 800 includes a 7-nm 8-core processor with 4 Cortex A76 cores operating at a frequency of 2.0 GHz and 4 Cortex A55 cores at a frequency of 2.0 GHz. Graphics is powered by Mali-G57MP4. The chipset is also equipped with HyperEngine technology to improve the gaming experience. APU 3.0 delivers up to 2.4 TOPS of AI performance. Dimensity 800 is capable of supporting displays with Full HD + resolution and refresh rates of up to 90 Hz, as well as up to 16 GB of LPDDR4x RAM.

Taiwanese maker claims Dimensity 800 has flagship ISPs as it can support up to four cameras. In particular, cameras with a resolution of up to 64 megapixels and dual cameras with a resolution of 32 megapixels + 16 megapixels. The company also added support for algorithms for focusing, auto exposure, auto white balance, noise reduction, face recognition and HDR.

The Dimensity 800 5G chipset supports aggregation of two carrier frequency bands, which provides 30% wider coverage. In addition, there is support for multi-mode 2G / 3G / 4G and dynamic separation of the spectrum, 5G networks with a frequency below 6 GHz. The chipset provides download speeds of up to 3.5 Gb / s and download speeds of up to 1.25 Gb / s. But there is no possibility of combining two SIM cards with 5G.

In terms of technical specifications, the Dimensity 800 will be a good competitor to Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 / 765G. It is expected that the first smartphones based on the Dimensity 800 will be released before the end of the first half of 2020.
