Microsoft announces Surface Laptop SE with Windows 11 SE for the education sector
Microsoft today announced two new educational products: the new Surface Laptop SE and a new version of Windows 11 called Windows 11 SE. Targeted at the education sector, this new product is designed for quick and easy deployment to K8 classrooms for teachers and IT administrators.
This is a new alternative to Chromebooks, which are popular in schools in the United States. As more and more students use computers to for online learning, Microsoft’s goal with the SE is to provide a better learning experience for children by making the laptop affordable and making the new operating system as secure as possible.
The Surface Laptop SE will retail for $249.99, making it the cheapest Microsoft device to date. A no-frills laptop designed specifically for educational institutions, very affordable and easy to use at school.
The Surface Laptop SE comes with a choice of Intel Celeron N4020 dual-core or N4120 quad-core processor, 4GB or 8GB DDR4 memory, 64GB or 128GB eMMC flash. For graphics, it has an Intel UHD Graphics 600.
The laptop features 11.6-inch TFT display with a aspect ratio of 16:9 and a lower screen resolution of 1366×768 of 135 PPI. The laptop is equipped with TPM 2.0 chip for enterprise security.
For making remote meetings , the laptop comes with a 1MP front facing camera with up to 720p 30fps video. Additionally, it features a single digital microphone with 2W stereo speakers.
For connectivity, the Surface Laptop SE is equipped with one USB Type C port, one USB A port, one DC jack for charging, and one 3.5mm headphone/mic jack. The laptop supports Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0 LE.

On the exterior, the Surface Laptop SE features a all plastic body unpainted featuring a Glacier color. The physical buttons include power button and volume buttons on the keyboard. The laptop can open in an angle of 135 degrees maximum.
Weighing in at 2.45 pounds, this laptop has a long battery life which Microsoft claims to be at 16 hours, which is enough for any Windows laptop.
On the software side, the Surface Laptop SE runs on Windows 11 SE operating system bundled with Microsoft 365 for Education.
