SAIC-GM-Wuling reported earlier today (January 14th, 2022) that sales of its Hongguang Mini EV had surpassed 500,000 units in the previous year. The electric vehicle is described as a “tiny car,” and has been popular in China, where the manufacturer is based.

Prior to this announcement, the firm reported that it had sold over 400,000 Hongguang Mini EVs in China. However, sales now stand at more than 550,000 vehicles.

China’s annual sales of cars powered by “new energy” were likewise the highest in the country. A single new energy vehicle type sold 55,729 units in China in December 2021 alone, which is a record for the country as a whole.

For the 16th month in a row, the Hongguang Mini EV from the company placed #1 in this category. A micro car upgrading program is now being planned by the Chinese automaker to keep the series going.

Even more types of the tiny electric vehicle are expected to be launched in China in the future. Thanks to the Mini EV, the business has sold more EVs than Tesla, the world’s leading EV manufacturer.

Wuling Hongguang’s MINI EV also won first place in the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce Automobile group’s new energy preservation rate list. It ranked top in this category with an efficiency rate of 89.78 percent.

During the same time period, the brand sold over 750,000 units of its SEV series vehicles, which include the Hongguang MINI EV, Wuling Nano EV, and KiWi EV.
