New Redmi smartphone with 32 MP selfie camera is set to launch on April 24
Xiaomi’s newly-established Redmi subsidiary is preparing to add another phone to its ranks. The upcoming Redmi Y3 , which achieved its Wi-Fi Certification last month was revealed in a new tweet from Xiaomi India boss Manu Kumar Jain.
From last month’s certification, we knew the phone would work with MUI 10 with Android Pie. Today’s puzzling tweet suggests an improved front-facing camera with a probable 32MP sensor, it makes sense to add this to the Y3 curriculum. Speculation suggests that the phone may arrive as a Pro variant of the existing Redmi 7 .
The phone will succeed the Redmi Y2 from last year which was known as Redmi S2 internationally, we can expect a similar naming strategy with the new phone, will probably be called Redmi S3 globally.
Little more is known about the next budget phone, we can confirm that it will run Android 9.0 with MIUI 10.
The price is expected to remain in the range of INR 10,000 ($ 140).
However, the fact that the Redmi Y3 is already being certified by the agencies suggests that its development is almost ready and we should see it announced soon.
The company has now confirmed that the upcoming Redmi Y-series smartphone, tipped to be the Redmi Y3, will be launched on April 24 in India. Moreover, Xiaomi’s revelation on Twitter has also confirmed that the device will pack a 32-megapixel front camera that will let users capture selfies with more details, something Xiaomi is teasing with the “32MP Super Selfie” moniker.
The accompanying image shows a section of a smartphone’s front panel, ostensibly the Redmi Y3, with a waterdrop notch whose shape is quite similar to the one on the Redmi Note 7 duo.
As for the sensor itself, it is being tipped that the Redmi Y3 might employ Samsung’s 32-megapixel ISOCELL Bright GD1 image sensor that was announced back in October last year. In a previous tweet, the company teased that the Redmi Y3 will also pack a large battery that will provide users with some relief from the woes of their smartphone dying out before the end of the day. There is no word on the battery capacity or support for fast charging, but rumours suggest that the Redmi Y3 might pack a 4,000mAh battery.
The Redmi Y3 – carrying the model number M1810F6G – will run MIUI 10 based on Android Pie and will have support for Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n standards.
Please stay tuned for updates on April 24 for detailed information about the upcoming Redmi Y3.
