Samsung unveils new Exynos 880 with 5G for mid-range smartphones

The South Korean company Samsung Electronics has officially unveiled its new Exynos 880 mobile chipset, equipped with a built-in 5G modem and is also optimized for gaming.

Exynos 880 is based on the 8-nm Samsung FinFET process technology. It is equipped with two high-performance Cortex-A77 cores with a frequency of 2 GHz and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores with a frequency of 1.8 GHz. In addition, it uses the Mali-G76 MP5 GPU, supports an advanced graphics API, and integrates various technologies for processing graphics.

The built-in Samsung Exynos 880 modem supports 5G networks below 6 GHz. This chip supports E-UTRA-NR Dual Connectivity technology, which combines 5G and 4G streams to achieve speeds of 3.55 Gb / s.

The Samsung Exynos 880 supports cameras with resolutions up to 64 megapixels, 4K video recording at 30 frames per second and 4K video decoding / encoding using H.265, H.264 and VP9 codecs.

According to the company, Exynos 880 supports LPDDR4x, UFS 2.1 memory, eMMC 5.1 flash memory, as well as Bluetooth 5.0, WiFi 5, FM radio, GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo and USB Type-C.

Samsung’s new processor is already in mass production and will be targetted towards devices in the mid-range segment. The first smartphone on the Exynos 880 5G will be the Vivo Y70s.
