Qualcomm launches new mid-range chipset Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 Chip

On Friday, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, its latest mobile platform powering mid-range devices. Since the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 debuted last year, this is the first update to the Qualcomm 7-series.

The newly disclosed chipset is said to boost performance by more than 50% over its predecessor while also reducing power consumption by 13%.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 supports 200-megapixel cameras, has auto variable rate shading (VRS) for games, and uses Qualcomm’s aptX Lossless codec for audio.

It is stated that the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 improves AI performance per Watt by 40% compared to the previous generation, and it also includes a new AI Super Resolution capability that can be used to enhance the quality of game scenes or photographs.

Release schedule for the Snapdragon 7+ Generation 2
Brands like Redmi and Realme will use the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 mobile platform, which was just revealed. According to Qualcomm, the processor will first appear in smartphones that will go on sale later this month.

Specs of the second Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2
Qualcomm claims that the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 will deliver some of the functionality available in the Snapdragon 8-series smartphone platforms.

The maximum frequency of the new chipset is 2.91GHz. The company claims that compared to its predecessor, its CPU performance is improved by more than 50% and its GPU performance improves by 200%.

Meanwhile, it boasts enhanced power efficiency by 13%, supposedly resulting in longer battery life.

As an example, the new mobile platform includes the Qualcomm aptX Lossless codec for high-quality audio streaming and the VRS for optimizing content resolution and volumetric rendering for particle effects like fog and smoke.

The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 can take pictures at up to 200 megapixels and can shoot films in staggered high dynamic range (HDR). The 18-bit triple ISP enables the camera to take 30 pictures in low light and combine them into one brighter, sharper picture. The chipset, according to Qualcomm, also lets users record more than 4,000 times as much camera data, which improves dynamic range.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 supports additional networks, frequencies, and bandwidths globally and has fast download speeds of up to 4.4 Gbps and excellent battery efficiency.

Its Snapdragon 7-series platform supports 5G/4G Dual-Sim Dual Active (DSDA) for the first time, allowing consumers to use two SIMs when traveling or separating professional and personal contacts. Qualcomm® FastConnectTM 6900 Mobile Connectivity Solution gives Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 3.6 Gbps Wi-Fi.
