Aircraft of Saurya Airlines crashes in TIA during takeoff, mostly airlines staff onboard
A fire broke out in a Saurya Airlines plane at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
There were 19 passengers on board. The aircraft has overrun the runway. The plane crashed due to loss of balance while flying.
The plane that was about to fly to Pokhara has crashed. Inside the aircraft are employees of the engineering department of Saurya Airlines. This is not a regular flight of Saurya Airlines.
Sources say that the plane of Saurya Airlines met with an accident while taking off from the runway to Pokhara around 11 am on Wednesday.
Minute later, it was seen that there was a fire at the airport and smoke was rising. Firefighters and security teams rushed to put off the fire and gain control.
Information Officer of Nepal Civil Aviation Authority informed that the CRJ 200 aircraft of Sourya Air skidded eastward from Runway 2 Zero before take off at 10:30 am on Thursday morning and caught fire.
SSP Dineshraj Mainali, spokesperson of Kathmandu Valley Police Office Ranipokhari, informed that aircraft’s Captain Manish Shakya, 37, who was on board, was rescued and taken to KMC Hospital.
While flying to Pokhara, the Sourya Air plane fell in an empty space behind the Buddha Air hangar.
According to SSP Dineshraj Mainali, there were 19 people in the Sourya Airlines, including two crew members.
‘It is understood that they are all employees of Saurya Airlines,’ he said, ‘More details are yet to come.’
He informed that the dead bodies recovered from the incident site were taken to Teaching Hospital Maharajganj.
It has been revealed that the crashed plane of Saurya Airlines flew to Pokhara for engine testing. This aircraft was on its way to Pokhara for full engine repair (C-Check). 9N-AME had 19 people on board.
