LG’s new range of OLED TVs of 2022 offer more brightness and additional display sizes

LG new OLED TV 2022

In 2022, LG is launching a new line of OLED TVs with larger sizes and improved brightness.
For several years, LG’s OLED TVs have dominated discussions among high-end TV fans. However, in the last few years, several OLED TVs have finally been brought down in prices that middle-class households can afford.

Every year, LG steps up at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) to launch a new range of OLEDs that incorporate some enhancement or another: cheaper, bigger, smaller, whatever. This year, LG’s TVs are a little brighter than they were last year.

LG has a number of distinct OLED product lines, including the A series, the B series, the C series, the G series, and the Z series.

This week at CES, LG unveiled new models in each of these categories. The new C2 model is getting a noteworthy change over the C1: it now features the brighter “Evo” screens LG launched in the more expensive G1 last year.

Reviewers love LG’s OLEDs because of their deep blacks, true colors, and impressive contrast. However, they are sometimes criticized for not having the same maximum brightness as more expensive non-OLED televisions. The burn-in risk, which has decreased over time but is still a worry for certain use cases, is another criticism leveled at them.

Because the C and G series TVs have historically had such a large price difference, prospective OLED purchasers will be delighted to see that the less expensive C series now has better peak brightness. It will be a while before we know for sure how much of a difference the new design has made.

As a way to set the G series apart from the C series, LG has added a new feature to the G2 called “Brightness Booster.” This feature is not present on the C2. TVs with panels that feature a heat-sink are said to be more efficient at achieving peak brightness.

Additionally, the screen bezel on the C2 and G2 models in 2022 will be just 6 millimeters, down from 10.2 millimeters in 2021. LG’s new OLED EX technology, about which we covered briefly just a few days ago, is likely to be used in these displays.

As a result of a new AI processor, dynamic tone mapping will be improved in the C2, G2, and Z2 (which is basically the G2, but 8K instead of 4K). Cheaper A2 and B2 models make do with an out-of-date, underpowered CPU. 120 Hz displays, customizable refresh rates, and HDMI 2.1 are available on the B2 and higher models. As a result, the A2 lacks many of the features found in the more expensive sets that gamers care about.

Nvidia G-Sync compatibility has been added to LG’s 120 Hz TVs as part of this latest update. AMD’s FreeSync was supported in the previous generation, but today there are two major VRR standards.

It’s not just the hardware that’s changing; new software functions are also being added. Users utilizing LG’s webOS TV instead of a set-top box, game console, or dongle now have the option of creating several user profiles. As of 2022, LG wants to include Matter smart home standard support on their televisions.

48, 55, 65 and 77 inches are the sizes available for the A2. A total of 55, 65, and 77 inches will be offered for the B2. The C2 is available in 42, 48, 55, 65, 77, and 83-inch lengths. The 42-inch and 48-inch C2 sets lack the brighter Evo panels found on the larger sets.

The Z2 is only available in 77- or 88-inch versions, while the G2 is available in 55, 65, 77, 83, and 97 inches.

LG has yet to disclose pricing and availability, but considering the fiercer competition it faces in the OLED industry than ever before, it is unlikely to go too much from 2021’s rates. Samsung, the current market leader, has recently joined the OLED TV bandwagon, following in the footsteps of other manufacturers such as LG, Sony, and Panasonic.
