Comparison : Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Vs S22 Plus Vs S22

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Vs S22 Plus Vs S22

Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra were all unveiled by Samsung on February 9th. However, which model of the Samsung Galaxy S22 should you go with? In what ways is the Ultra version different from its more basic counterparts? We hope this comparison of technical specifications will assist you in making a decision.

With the exception of the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s S-Pen, there aren’t many distinctions between the two latest Samsung flagships. We examine the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra’s display, memory, SoC, camera setup, and battery capacity. If you’re on the fence about which of these three models to buy, this comparison should give you some peace of mind.

Display and Design

The design and display of the Galaxy S22 and S22+ are identical. Metal camera module protrudes from the rear of the device, and Samsung calls this design “Contour Cut”. The latest Gorilla Glass Victus+ is used on both the front and back of the device (and also on the front).

The Galaxy S22 is not fashioned from repurposed fishing nets, as some leaks have led us to assume. A extremely unclear explanation was provided by Samsung, which stated that these materials would be employed in the production of “certain components.” The Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus will be available in four colors: Phantom Black, Phantom White, Green, and Pink Gold, with an aluminum frame.

Samsung’s Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus smartphones have flat AMOLED screens with diagonals of 6.1 inches and 6.6 inches, respectively. Full HD+ resolution, 120 Hz variable refresh rate, and 240 Hz touch sampling rate are all included in this model. The Galaxy S22 has a brightness of 1,300 nits, while the Galaxy S22 Plus has a brightness of 1,750 nits (peak).

Now let’s have a look at the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. With a camera module that is incorporated directly into the body, we do away with the Contour Cut design and ensure that it does not lie within an island. Gorilla Glass Victus+ is used on both the front and back of the device. It has a QHD+ resolution of 6.8 inches with the same 120 Hz refresh and 240 Hz touch sampling rates.

Using Samsung’s 2.5D technology, the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s screen is also somewhat curved. Despite this, the phone’s edges remain straight and flat, which is reminiscent of the design of previous Galaxy Notes. S-Pen slots are located in the left-hand bottom corner and appear like the original S-Pens found on Galaxy Note devices.

Finally, all models have been certified for water and dust protection by the IP68 standard, as well. This year, the materials used in the design are more harmonized. The base models no longer use plastic or polycarbonate, but the Galaxy S22 Ultra still stands out with its Galaxy Note design, which I’m sure will gratify those who have a nostalgia for this range.

Performance and connectivity

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC powers the Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra in the US, while the Exynos 2200 SoC powers the S22 Ultra in Europe. It’s an octa-core design with one Cortex-X2 CPU, three Cortex-A710 processors, and four Cortex-A510.

There are two memory options for the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus: 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage. With 12GB of RAM and either 256, 512 or 1TB of storage space available, the Galaxy S22 Ultra has three further variants.

The Exynos 2200 was shown to be inferior to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in several benchmarks run weeks before the Galaxy S22 was released, but we won’t know for sure until we get our hands on the new Samsung for a comprehensive review.

Camera module

The new Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra’s camera modules are the most intriguing parts of their specifications. Basic and intermediate models have similar specs so let’s start with them.

There’s a triple camera module with a 50MP main sensor, Dual Pixel autofocus, and optical stabilization on the Galaxy S22 and S22+ (OIS). Additionally, there is an ultra-wide angle lens with a 120° field of view and a 3x optical zoom lens with optical stabilization, both of which have 12MP resolution.

For the first time, Samsung is including a genuine optical zoom in the entry-level devices rather than keeping it exclusive to the Ultra model.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Camera Specification

For the Galaxy S22 Ultra, there is a quad-camera setup with a 108 megapixel main camera. The chip’s 23 percent rise over the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s Isocell HM3 shows the presence of a new sensor. Only the Isocell GN2 and HP1 are larger than the HM3 on Samsung’s official sensor list, with resolutions of 50 MP and 200 MP, respectively.

The rest of the sensors consist of a 12 MP wide-angle sensor and two 10 MP telephoto sensors, one for 3x optical zoom and the other for 10x optical zoom, similar to the Galaxy S22 and S22+.

The S22/S22+ and S22 Ultra only differ in the primary lens, which has a larger sensor and higher resolution on the Ultra variant. A 10x optical zoom lens is also included in the Ultra variant, which is missing from the basic models.

Samsung One UI 4.1

Software

OneUI 4.1, the most recent version of Samsung’s Android 12-based skin, powers the Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra. This time around, Samsung made no mention of any new features.

Battery life and fast charging

Samsung consistently underperforms in this area. There’s only a 3,700 mAh battery in the Galaxy S22 and 4,500 mAh battery in the Galaxy S22+. Even for a flagship phone, that’s not great, and it’s even less than the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 5,000 mAh battery.

Samsung still has a long way to go in terms of quick charging. The wired charging power is 25 watts, and the wireless charging power is 15 watts on the entry-level Galaxy S22. Wired charging is slightly more powerful on the Galaxy S22+ and S22 Ultra at 45 watts, while wireless charging is limited to 15 watts. Reverse wireless charging is also supported by all three devices.

When it comes to the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s 6.8-inch QHD+ display and 120 Hz refresh rate, I can’t even begin to imagine how long it would take to recharge it if Samsung hadn’t provided 45 watts instead of 25 watts wired charging speed. 5,000mAh should be more than plenty. Even if Samsung could have lowered the 45 watts on the base model, it’s a nice sign that the company is finally moving upscale in terms of charging.
