Nepal and Qatar Forge Closer Ties with Multiple Agreements and MOUs

In a significant diplomatic development, Nepal and Qatar have solidified their relationship through the signing of several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs). This move underscores a shared commitment to cooperation and collaboration across various sectors.

Nepal and Qatar inked a series of agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during a high-level bilateral meeting held in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The meeting, hosted at the Soaltee Hotel, culminated in eight deals, six of which were at the government level, while the remaining two were related to the private sector.

Rupak Sapkota, advisor to the Prime Minister, revealed that the agreements and MoUs were signed during the delegation-level meeting led by Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

Strengthening Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors
The agreements covered a wide range of areas, including culture, arts, education, higher education, scientific research, youth, sports, legal cooperation, diplomatic training, and news exchange.
Notably, the two nations signed an MoU for Cooperation in the Fields of Culture and Arts between Nepal’s Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Qatar’s Ministry of Culture. Additionally, they inked an MoU for Cooperation in the Field of Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as an MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Youth and Sports.

Further strengthening their ties, Nepal and Qatar also signed an MoU on Cooperation between the Office of the Attorney General of Nepal and the Public Prosecution of the State of Qatar, and an MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Diplomatic Training and Education between Nepal’s Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA) and Qatar’s Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Boosting Economic and Business Cooperation
In a bid to foster economic and business cooperation, the two countries renewed the MoU between Qatar Chamber and the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FNCCI). They also signed an Agreement on Cooperation and Exchange of News between Nepal’s National News Agency (RSS) and Qatar News Agency (QNA), as well as an Agreement on the establishment of a Joint Business Council (JBC) between Qatar Chamber and the FNCCI.

These agreements and MoUs are expected to pave the way for enhanced collaboration between Nepal and Qatar across various sectors, further strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
